MIMMA2 showdown: Policeman KOs opponent in first round of lightweight bout

Seven mixed martial artists from around the country were crowned champions of their respective weights at the Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts season 2 (MIMMA2) final showdown last night.
The biggest amateur MMA fighting championship in Asia mesmerised thousands of fight fans at Stadium Negara to a night filled with intense cage action that had millions of viewers at the edge of their seats.
Among the highlights that took place was the lightweight bout between policeman, Muhammad Hasrul Abd Rasyid and Sabahan Richi Celestial.
Hasrul, a silat expert proved that the Malaysian police is a force to be reckoned with when he knocked out his opponent in the second round.
Realising that Richi Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) specalist, opponent Hasrul played a clever game by staying off the ground.
He then quickly knocked Richi down with his heavy hands as soon as he saw an opening which drew thunderous applause and cheer from the jeering crowd.
Before he hit the ring, Hasrul had mentioned that he wanted to keep the fight standing up as he knew BJJ practioners are dangerous on the floor.
"For me I want to keep the fight standing up as much as I can... and when went the fights over, I hope we (Richi and him) can still be friends, because that's always the best," said Hasrul who fights out of Ultimate Fighter Malaysia (UMF) to Astro AWANI.
Another highlight of the evening was the fight between Seah Zhang Yu from Penang and Kenny Yap from Terengganu.
Seah took up the cage in a last minute call to replace Muhammad Aiman from Negeri Sembilan, who failed to make weight.
But, the 24-hour decision was not a problem for Seah as he defeated Yap with a knockout earning him the title as the new MIMMA flyweight champion.
Besides that, a girl fight between 'Iron Rose' Foo Zhen Wei from Malaysia and Rachael ‘The Revolution’ Short from England also took the limelight in the event's professional female bout.
The clash between the two became the opening fight that evening with Foo taking the win via submission in the first round.
