Six Malaysian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters made the nation proud Friday night, as they downed their foreign opponents at home ground at ONE Championship's Throne of Tigers.
In the main event, Malaysia's Ev Ting emerged victorious over Iranian fighter Kamal Shalorus in a clash between lightweight contenders.
Ting displayed superb striking skills, hammering his opponent and preventing Shalorus from taking him down to the ground.
The battle lasted for three rounds, which in the end, gave Ting just enough points to earn him a split decision victory over Shalorus.
After the bout, Ting took the chance to thank the fans and shouted "Malaysia boleh!", and called for a title shot against reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion, Eduard Folayang.
In the co-main event, young Malaysian prospect Agilan Thani submitted Jeff Huang from Taiwan with an astonishing rear-naked choke.
Agilan put on a remarkable performance, dominating Huang through his impeccable ground game despite his opponent's striking prowess.
The hometown favorite then executed a flawless transition into a rear-naked choke in the second round that left Huang no choice but to tap out.
In a bout between two female fighters, Malaysia's Ann Osman captured a satisfying victory in front of the home crowd at Stadium Negara by defeating Cambodia’s Vy Srey Khouch via referee stoppage.
After securing a full mount, Ann rained down heavy shots towards her opponent -- forcing the referee to put a halt in the contest with two seconds left in the first round.
Previously-unbeaten Pakistani featherweight prospect Ahmed Mujtaba experienced the first loss of his career as he went to fight Malaysia's Keanu Subba.
Both fighters started out aggressively, but it was Subba who showed a more capable set of grappling skills, locking in a deep guillotine choke in the first round.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's Saiful Merican proved himself a top bantamweight competitor with a stoppage win over Philippine fighter Burn Soriano.
Showcasing tremendous power with every strike and drawing cheers from the crowd after each landed blow, Saiful’s powerful kicks and punches proved too much for Soriano.
The Filipino was unable to continue the fight after the first round bell, granting Saiful a technical knockout victory.
Another Malaysian fighter, Muhammad Aiman who kicked off the event, won with a technical knockout victory over Brazilian combatant Eduardo Novaes.
Aiman finished the job with finesse in the first round, launching a perfectly-executed kick to the body before following it up with blows on the ground.
