American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Ben ‘Funky’ Askren maintained his undefeated record after dominating his Russian opponent, Nikolay Aleksakhin in Manila, Friday night.
The 31-year-old wrestler overcame a tremendous effort from Aleksakhin to win by unanimous decision in a five-round Super Fight at ONE: Global Rivals catch weight contest.
Askren displayed some impressive high-level wrestling techniques to score on multiple takedowns against his opponent.
During the fight, Askren maintained control of Aleksakhin on the ground, while raining punches from the mounted position.
Aleksakhin returned some few solid strikes himself, but it didn’t seem to do much damage to Askren.
In the final round, Aleksakhin took the fight to a standing position while seeking an opportunity for a knockout, but Askren managed to dodge every strike that landed his way.
The final decision saw all three judges scoring the fight in favour of Askren.
Meanwhile, in another exciting bout between lightweights, a contest ensued between Filipino fighters Honorio ‘The Rock’ Banario and Vaughn ‘The Spawn’ Donayre.
Banario dominated the striking exchanges landing the right hand over the top frequently and with firm, solid gusto!
The former featherweight champion also controlled action on the ground, almost finishing the fight with an arm bar submission showcasing his improved grappling.
The fight ended with Banario earning a win via unanimous decision.
