EDDIE “The Underground King” Alvarez is raring for a chance to display his skills at ONE Championship.
After inking one of the most talked about deals in combat sports, the former UFC and Bellator MMA Lightweight World Champion is hoping for a promotional debut in early 2019.
Alvarez, who boasts a 29-6 record in his 15 years as a professional, looks forward to embracing the different culture of martial arts across Asia, and feels blessed to have the opportunity to compete in front of a new set of fans.
“The Underground King” is keen on visiting new places across the continent, and that includes Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, having heard great things about the city.
“I’ve never been to Malaysia or Thailand for example, and it’s always been a small dream of mine to see these parts of the world.
“It’s important for me to see these places and I’m thankful for Chatri Sityodtong and ONE Championship for making this dream happen,” the 34-year-old admitted.
The ONE lightweight contender has felt the warm embrace of the Malaysian fans, who are eager to host him in their bustling city, and he plans on satiating their appetite in 2019.

“I’m a recognizable name in Malaysia and it is important for me to be even more recognized and meet the fans.
“I want to fight where the people want me to fight. I want to go to where the fans are at the loudest,” cited Alvarez.
He added: “If the excitement is in Malaysia, or if it is in Singapore, I’m ready. It’s really up to the fans to make the choice.”
The knockout specialist said he was very touched when he saw the excitement of the fans surrounding his signature, and promised an exciting debut to repay them.
“Hearing how excited you guys [Malaysian fans] are, I’m just as excited too. I’d like to come there and meet the fans in a different sort of landscape.
“Wherever I fight, I fight with my heart and put out an exciting battle.”
Having already captured two of the biggest accolades in the sport, Alvarez is eager to complete his mixed martial arts world title collection by capturing the ONE Championship Lightweight World Title.
The in-demand Philadelphian said it was the deciding factor when balancing out contract offers.
“Whenever I join a promotion, I’m fixated on becoming the world champion. I will fight the best in the division and make my way to the title.
“I want to make sure I earn my spot to be a contender and then the champion,” he concluded.
