Malaysian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters Saiful 'The Vampire' Merican and Peter Davis beat their opponents in two separate bouts at the ONE Fighting Championships (ONE FC) 'War of Nations', Friday.
Both of the local fighters put on fantastic, adrenalin pumped performances in the largest Asian MMA event at Stadium Negara in front of a sold-out crowd.
Saiful won his fight against Khim Dima of Cambodia in the first bout of the evening in the flyweight category. The young Malaysian managed to control the bout with superior ground control despite being a master of stand-up fighting style of Muay Thai.
The fight went up until the third round resulting in Saiful obtaining the win by a judges' decision.
The second fight involving a Malaysian is the fight between Malaysian MMA star, Peter Davis and Pakistan's Waqar Umar.
The excitement of the lightweight bout had spectators on the edge of their seats.
Peter nearly finished the fight in the first round with a ground and pound from the mount position, while Waqar came close with an armbar attempt of his own.
Peter showcased his Wuji Chuan striking moves to start the second round, shaking his opponent with a high kick.
But it was at the second round that Peter continued with a takedown and delivered hard elbow strikes onto Waqar's face which forced referee Olivier Coste to stop the fight, hence making Peter the winner.
