The final tryout for the fourth season of Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts Fighting Championship (MIMMA4) saw almost 300 amateur fighters putting their skill to the test.
The amateur mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion held its fifth tryout for this season at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya last weekend.
The participants for this year's tryouts put up some intense action inside the cage while impressing the judges especially with their grappling, striking, and takedown skills.
The previous four tryouts were held at Prangin Mall (George Town), Kilang Bateri (Johor Bharu), One Borneo (Kota Kinabalu), and Plaza Merdeka (Kuching), which saw over 1,000 participants.
From the tryouts, 144 contestants will move on to the Ladder Match scheduled to happen next month.
Ladder Match will involve 16 participants contesting in nine weight classes - flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, heavyweight, including the two classes introduced last season - Foreign Pride and women's division.
MIMMA is the brainchild of Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Jason Lo with the objective of developing the MMA scene in Malaysia by focusing on the grassroots level in order to create a stronger base for the sport locally with the hope of one day producing a world champion.
