Singapore teen fighter Angela Lee became the youngest ever to win a world title in a major mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation when she defeated Japanese veteran Mei Yamaguchi.
The 19-year-old beat her opponent by unanimous decision after five rounds at ONE Championship’s latest event, 'Ascent to Power' in Singapore, Friday night.
The victory landed Lee the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship title.
During the fight, Lee and Yamaguchi traded heavy blows and displayed superb, tactical grappling skills all throughout the fight.
Yamaguchi started out very strong in the early rounds, but Lee came on late and scored points for multiple near-finishes.
Throughout the five intense rounds, Lee fought hard in the second half of the bout, granting her just enough points to earn victory from the judges’ score.
Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Roger Gracie from the world famous Gracie family, overpowered Michal Pasternak to crown him the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship title.
The Brazilian Jiu-jitsu maestro from Brazil defeated his Polish opponent through an arm triangle choke in the first round.
After a brief exchange of strikes, Gracie brought Pasternak to the ground from the clinch.
Pasternak tried his best to escape but Gracie’s jiujitsu skills were too superior, gripping him tight until Pasternak was put to sleep.
