Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) are the second team after Selangor to have booked their berth in the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup competition.

The Southern Tigers mauled Sarawak 3-0 in a Group B match at the State Stadium in Kuching for their fourth victory in as many matches. The 12 points they have picked up has guaranteed their ticket to the quarter-finals even though they still have two matches to play.

Last night’s result also opened the field wide for the other three teams in the group to try and secure the other quarter-final slot from the group. All three teams, the others being Armed Forces and Perak, have three points a piece.

In Saturday night's action, JDT opened scoring as early as the 14th minute when national striker Mohd Safee Sali converted a penalty.

Referee Syed Azahar Syed Kamar awarded the penalty after Mohd Amri Yahyah was brought down in the box. The 1-0 scoreline stood till half-time.

On resumption, JDT had to wait till the 79th minute for the second goal which was netted by Singapore international Hariss Harun who headed home a cross supplied by Mahali Jasuli.

Team captain Safiq Rahim who came in as a substitute sealed victory with JDT's third goal in the 88th minute.

Sarawak were playing without talismanic captain Joseph Kalang Tie who had to sit out of the match due to a suspension.

The match was to have been played on Sept 26 but was postponed to Saturday after JDT advanced to the semifinals of the AFC Cup.
