Ex-Harimau Muda A player Nazmi Faiz Mansor, who ended his contract with Portugal Premier League side Beira-Mar recently, will have to wait until the transfer window is open in April before he can join Selangor PKNS in the Super League campaign.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said the FAM has rejected the Selangor PKNS' early registration application to enlist Nazmi Faiz's services for the first transfer window was closed on Dec 6 last year while the next one would only be opened from April 8
to 22.
"Nazmi also needed to get an international transfer certificate (ITC), and according to the rules, any player who leaves any club, locally or abroad, must go back to his original club.
"In this case, Nazmi Faiz should return to Harimau Muda A (under 23 squad) after leaving Portugal's SC Beira-Mar. The matter will be dealt with by the FAM Player Status Committee," Azzuddin told reporters after meeting PKNS representatives at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya here, today.
Nazmi Faiz, who revoked his three-year contract with FC Beira-Mar after playing for only eight months, signed a three-year contract with Selangor PKNS upon his return from Portugal.
On Nazmi Faiz's decision to end his contract with SC Beira-Mar, Azzuddin said he was disappointed for he learned about it from the media, instead of the player himself.
"Having met Nazmi and his father today, we respect their decision and FAM does not have any right to disagree with the decision.
"However, I hope this incident does not dampen the spirit of any player who wants to nurture their talent abroad, but serves as a lesson to local players," he said.
Selangor PKNS manager Azmi Adnan he accepted the FAM's decision and would provide training for Nazmi Faiz until the transfer window is open in April.
