Malaysian player Muhammad Nazmi Faiz Mansor who was involved in a 'spitting' incident during Malaysia's opening Group B match against Timor Leste on Saturday was handed a six match suspension by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The suspension meant, the SEA Games campaign of Nazmi from Selangor is over and will return home early.
The decision to suspend Nazmi for six matches was taken by the AFC Disciplinary Committee which met today and confirmed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) via its Facebook posting Tuesday.
In the match, Datuk Ong Kim Swee's boys managed to beat Timor Leste 1-0 through D. Saarvindran's 11th minute goal despite having to play two-thirds of the match with 10-man after Nazmi was given the marching orders for allegedly spitting at Timor Leste’s Filipe Oliveira.
Nazmi who was angered by a rash challenge by Timor Leste’s Filipe Oliveira in the 31st minute had allegedly spat in retaliation.
The incident was spotted by fourth match official Yousef Almarzouq who later informed referee Foo Chuan Hui of Singapore and the latter gave Nazmi the marching orders.
