The new logo for Harimau Malaysia was unveiled during the Malaysia Day charity match between Harimau Malaysia Selection and Dugong All Stars at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium, Paroi on Friday.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Affandi Hamzah said the logo would be used on products with regard to the national team such as jersey.
"We received 2,000 entries for the contest. Some 20,000 fans voted for this logo. We hope this rebranding will benefit the national team," he added.
The logo was designed by Muhammad Amzar Mohamed, 22, of Subang Jaya, Selangor, a final year student of Graphic Design at Universiti Teknologi Mara Puncak Alam.
The logo received the highest number of votes made online from March 22 to April 3. It was among the five best logo selected by a professional panel on March 8.
At the same function, the Harimau Malaysia official song, entitled 'Laungkanlah' was formally presented.
'Laungkanlah' will be used to lift the players spirit whenever Harimau Malaysia takes to the field.
Harimau Malaysia Selection beat Dugong All Stars 3-1 in the charity match.
The Harimau Malaysia line-up includes Dollah Salleh, Annuar Abu Bakar, B. Sathianathan, Bradley John Maloney, Ho Hong Seong and Lim Chan Yew.
Dugong All Stars led by Azman Adnan includes celebrities such as Black, Tomok, Akim, Altimet, Achey Bocey, Zahid, Joe Flizzow, Johan, Ray and Radin.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Amzar said he spent two days on research and one day to design the logo before sending the entry one day before the contest closed.
"I chose to make the tiger from side view to move the team forward. I used colours from the Malaysian flag except blue which I replace with black as it is more dominant and bold."
For his effort, Muhammad Amzar won cash prize of RM10,000. -- Bernama
