ANKARA: Newcastle United ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by securing their first-ever English League Cup (Carabao Cup) title with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in Sunday's final at Wembley Stadium, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
Dan Burn put Newcastle ahead just before half-time, scoring in the 45th minute.
The Black and Whites extended their lead in the second half when Alexander Isak found the net in the 52nd minute, making it 2-0.
Liverpool managed a late response through Federico Chiesa, who scored in the 94th minute, but it was not enough to deny Newcastle a long-awaited triumph.
The win marks Newcastle's first major domestic silverware since their FA Cup victory in 1955.
