Philippines whip Indonesia 4-0 to become first team to make AFF Suzuki Cup Semis
The Philippines, making it to the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinals for the first time, had already beaten Laos 4-1 at the same venue on Sunday.
Unheralded Philippines created history in the AFF Suzuki Cup by becoming the first team to qualify for the semifinals with a game to spare.
The squad, also known as 'The Azkals' coached by Thomas Dooley from the United States, pulled off a major shock by whipping 2010 runner-up Indonesia 4-0 in a Group A match at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, Tuesday.
The Philippines, making it to the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinals for the first time, had already beaten Laos 4-1 at the same venue on Sunday.
Group A host, Vietnam, also moved closer to a semifinal spot after beating Laos 3-0 in another match at the same venue tonight.
Vietnam, winner of the cup in 2008, was held to a 2-2 by Indonesia in their first match.
Based on the AFF Suzuki Cup format, the top two teams in Group A and B, move into the semifinals.
Group B hosted by Singapore, also involves Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar.
