Five of 15 football fans sought in connection with an attack on a Vietnamese football fan during the AFF Suzuki 2014 Cup match at the Shah Alam Stadium last Sunday, have come forward to assist police investigations.
Selangor CID chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdulah said the police had recorded statements from the five who were allowed to return home.
"All the individuals being sought are not suspects in the incident, but we are looking for them to help in investigations to track down the culprits," he said in a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters here on Wednesday.
It is understood that the five individuals turned up at police stations in Johor, Gombak, Cheras, Pudu and Shah Alam.
The incident occured when a group of Harimau Malaya supporters who were frustrated that Malaysia were losing 2-1 to Vietnam were said to have hurled objects at the Vietnam supporters.
During the commotion, a Vietnamese supporter was injured.
Mohd Adnan requested the remaining 10 individuals who were being sought to come to any police station.
Harimau Malaya are set to take on Vietnam in the second leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-finals at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Thursday.
