Protect Malaysia's good name, Khairy tells SEA Games athletes

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin urged athletes for the SEA Games in Singapore (June 5-16) to maintain discipline to protect the country's good name.
"You are representing Malaysia on the pitch and outside the pitch. You have to carry yourself well as athletes when overseas," he said.
The reminder followed a newspaper report on May 16 that athletes who competed at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland and Incheon Asian Games in South Korea were fined nearly RM150,000 for smoking and damaging property at the Games Village.
"This time, (at the SEA Games) we will be more strict. The athletes will have to pay for the damage.
"We will also review their involvement in the National Sports Council training programme," he said after launching the SEA Games coverage by Astro Arena, here, on Wednesday.
The newspaper report said the Malaysian contingent was fined RM3,640 during the Commonwealth Games and a whopping RM142,478 during the Asian Games.
