Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is confident that repair of the Shah Alam Stadium roof will be completed before the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017) starts next month.

“Secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali inspected the stadium yesterday and found that some parts of the roof have to be replaced immediately. I have agreed that improvements be made as soon as possible since the SEA Games is just one month away.

“The ministry, the Selangor government and the Shah Alam City Council are discussing the scope of improvements and repair work. Although the stadium belongs to the Selangor government, we have to cooperate since they have financial constraints.

“I am confident that the repair work will be completed before the Sea Games starts,” he told reporters after joining the TN50 Dialogue: Petronas Young Professionals Chart The Future, which was also attended by Petronas chairman Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan and Petronas president and group chief executive officer, Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.

On Thursday (July 13), a thunderstorm damaged the roof of Shah Alam Stadium, one of the venues of the SEA Games football competition.

The incident caused the friendly match between the Malaysia U-22 and the Myanmar U-22 teams to be halted for a few minutes.
