Revenue for the Malaysian Stadium Board (PSM) will not be affected if non sports events are not held at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said.
PSM CEO Ahmad Halmi Harun said the board does not depend on revenue from staging concerts or other non sport activities, for the maintenance of the stadium.
"We have enough funds for the maintenance of the stadium, so, even if we do not hold any non sports activities, we can still maintain the quality of the pitch and stadium.
"The income through sports events and non sports events is almost the same, not that we are only depending on non sports events," he told Bernama, here, today.
He added that to overcome the revenue lost from non sports events, PSM would organise more sporting events in the future.
"In the past, there will be third parties organising events but after this we (PSM) are going to become the organiser of major sports events. That is among initiatives being considered to enhance the revenue for the PSM," he said.
He added that the Ministry of Youth and Sports had in June announced that the stadium would be closed for maintenance for a six-month period starting October.
In line with the closure, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had decided to change the venue for the Malaysia Cup final and the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers, he said.
Halmi said the tender for resurfacing the stadium turf was already out.
