Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD), a charitable organisation under Sime Darby Berhad, is giving out a RM100,000 reward to cyclist Azizulhasni Awang, after he successfully brought home the bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games 2016.

The reward is announced by its chairman Tun Musa Hitam today.

"We are proud to announce a RM100,000 reward for Azizulhasni for the history he created.

"Despite the disruption in the final competition, you did not give up and it makes your victory more meaningful.

"Thanks also to the coaching crew, led by coach John Beasley, who have worked hard," said Tun Musa.

Azizulhasni was one of the athletes who receives funding from YSD for a gold medal campaign in the Olympic Games since 2009.

The rider from Dungun, Terengganu also received a RM456,000 scholarship from YSD to finance his bachelor's degree study at Victoria University, Melbourne.

Azizulhasni won third place in the keirin event at the Olympics Games in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.

In the dramatic final round, the eight-lap race was restarted twice after technical infringement by the riders and in the third start, Azizulhasni pipped world champion, Joachim Eilers from Germany to finish third.

The 28-year-old crossed the finishing line for the bronze behind defending champion Jason Kenny from Britain and Dutchman Matthijs Buchli.

Following the infringement, Azizulhasni said he was in great fear of disqualification after the keirin race had to be restarted twice.
