Former Malaysia Olympian Mirnawan Nawawi will be featured in Astro Arena as a host and commentator throughout the channel's special coverage on Olympic Rio 2016.
The former national hockey player said he will use his experiences while representing the country in this presentation to enrich the viewers' experience to better understand the feeling of our athletes during the match.
"For me this is a very interesting platform to use my experience in three Olympics not only in daily reports or reviews but I will make sure I grasp the feelings of the athletes when they compete in the Olympics," he said.
Mirnawan represented Malaysia in three Olympics, namely the Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.
His selection as host and commentator is part of the total 3,000 hours Olympic coverage from Astro.
Meanwhile, Astro Arena will offer exclusive coverage on the Malaysian contingent in Rio 2016.
"Astro Arena has sent a 36-member team to Rio, delivering 15 hours of live broadcast daily on our national athletes. Astro Arena will be available in both HD (Channel 802) and SD (Channel 801) during Olympics," said Astro's Vice President of Sports Business, Lee Choong Khay.
Besides Astro Arena, Malaysians can also look forward to the most comprehensive coverage of Rio 2016 Olympics with 12 dedicated channels in both HD (Channel 780 - 791) and SD (Channel 760 - 771) on Astro TV and Astro on the Go.
"I am pleased to share that even non-Astro customers can access Astro Arena on Astro on the Go. We call for Malaysians to support our sports champions by participating in our #AyuhMalaysiaKu campaign," said Lee.
All Astro Sports Pack and Sports Lite Pack subscribers, as well as those who had purchased the Sports Pass for UEFA EURO 2016 will have access to the 12 dedicated Olympics channels.
