National paralympic swimmer Jamery Siga was disappointed with his performance at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after failing to qualify for the final in the 50m freestyle S5 (cerebral palsy) category yesterday.
The 31-year-old swimmer from Sarawak clocked 38.79s to finish in 6th place in the first heat at the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Rio.
The time was far from his personal best of 37.20s which he did at a meet in Portugal last year.
Jamery will next be competing in the 100m freestyle on Friday.
Meanwhile, in sailing, Al Mustakim Matrin has started in his Single-Person Keelboat B2 (disabled in both hands and feet) event, which got underway at Marina da Gloria yesterday.
In his first race, Al Mustakim came in 14th out of 16 sailors after clocking 53.13s, while in the second race, he did 51.51s to finish in ninth place.
The 31-year-old from Sabah won the gold at the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea, and at the Hansa World Sailing Championship in The Netherlands in June this year.
He will compete in two more rounds today. Each participant has to go through 11 races in the competition which ends on Sept 17. -- Bernama
