Sarawak Aquatic Centre named after Pandelela Rinong

The Sarawak Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya, here was today named Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in honour of the national diving queen's Rio Olympic achievement.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas made the announcement at a welcoming ceremony for Pandelela Rinong at the Civics Centre (Dewan Suarah) here.
At the ceremony, Pandelela, who won a silver medal at the Olympic Games recently, was presented with a RM700,000 condominium unit by a private company, a RM500,000 incentive from the state government and a RM100,000 reward from another private company.
The furnished condominium unit located at the Batu Kawah New Township here was a gift from Tenaga Stabil Sdn Bhd.
Tenaga Stabil Sdn Bhd executive director and CEO Hong Boon Swee was on hand to present the condominium key to Pandelela herself at the ceremony.
The residence area where the condominium is located is also named Pandelela Rinong's Residence.
At the ceremony, Uggah announced a RM500,000 state government incentive for Pandelela.
Another Sarawak private company, Techninier Sdn Bhd also presented the national diver with a RM100,000 reward for her Olympic feat.
Speaking at the ceremony later, Uggah said the state government appreciated the success of Pandelela in bringing home a silver medal from Rio de Janeiro.
"On behalf of the Sarawak state government and people, I congratulate and thank you for bringing honours to the name of the country and state," he said.
Meanwhile, Pandelela in a brief speech said she was very thankful to all Malaysians, especially Sarawakians for praying for her success.
She was glad the sacrifice she made all these years had been worth a silver medal from Rio Olympics.
Earlier about 500 people swarmed Kuching International Airport to welcome Pandelela while several hundreds more waited at the Civics Centre to catch a glimpse of the diving queen.
