The selection for the Malaysian Athletics Union (MAU) top leadership has been conducted in a democratic manner and all quarters must accept the outcome.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said all sports associations in the country had selected their leaders according to their respective constitutions and it was up to them who to choose.
"They (associations) have conducted the selection in a democratic manner, we have to accept it," he told reporters after attending the City Youth Convention at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Training Institute in Bandar Tun Razak here today.
He was asked to comment on the MAU selection which saw most of the incumbents managed to defend their respective positions at its 13th annual general meeting yesterday.
In the selection for the term of 2016-2019, MAU president Datuk Karim Ibrahim and his deputy, Datuk SM Muthu won uncontested while vice-presidents Datuk Noorul Ariffin Abdul Majeed dan M. Iyaru defended their positions.
Two new vice-presidents are Datuk Paduka Mumtaz Jaffar and Datuk R. Annamalai, replacing Datuk Than Siew Kai and Rajemah Sheikh Ahmad. --Bernama
