Sports associations must be active to justify registration - Ahmad Faizal

PUTRAJAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has directed the Sports Commissioner (PJS) to ensure all associations registered under its auspices are active.

He said sports bodies need to carry out the sports activities they are representing apart from holding annual general meeting (AGM) and sending their activity reports to PJS.

He also stressed that there is no need to set up thousands of associations when the level of the sport is still poor without any improvement.

"If an association was set up but AGM was not held and the activity is just Aidilfitri gathering, then there is no need for such a sports association. And If it is established to create posts, then I think it is a waste of time.

"So we need to improve such areas and find ways to put conditions on sports associations. If it is about football, there must be football activities held," he said after the launch of the 2022 Malaysia Games 100-Day Countdown at Menara KBS here today.

PJS had earlier announced that more than 1,860 sports associations at various levels did not send their activity report to the commissioner in the past three years.
