The Sports Commissioner's office will study a report received from the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Association's (KLBA) on Dec 24, with regard to its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on Dec 9, before
taking any action.
Sports Commissioner Datuk Mohd Yassin Mohd Salleh said his office would have to go through the report that was received two days ago because there are a number of issues that need to be clarified.
"According to the KLBA constitution, the EGM is considered valid because 19 of the 35 affiliates attended and a vice president can chair the meeting in the absence of the President and Deputy President.
"But the question is whether the EGM was called with the consent of the council," he said on Wednesday.
The KLBA's EGM that was held without the presence of its President Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria and his Deputy A. Subramaniam and chaired by its vice president S. Ganesan, was not approved by the Sports Commissioner's office.
The EGM was convened following a complaint by 17 affiliates that four ordinary members of the 2010-2012 committee had voted in its biennial general meeting (BGM) and election.
Rule 15.2 of the KLBA constitution stated that two accredited representatives from each affiliate and the principal office bearers have one vote each at the BGM but four ordinary members - K. Kanagaraja, M. Krishna, K. Neduncheralathan and T. Elangovan - had attended and voted.
The principle office bearers are the president, deputy president, three vice-presidents, secretary and the treasurer.
Mohd Yassin said the EGM should not be held just because a group of affiliates had lodged a complaint but instead such an EGM should be held with the consent of the association's council.
"Whatever meeting called, must be decided in the council meeting but what has happened in KLBA now is that the secretary had initiated the meeting.
Furthermore, some affiliates have complained to the Sports Commissioner's office that they were not called for the meeting," he said.
