The puzzle as to who will fill the 'hot seat' of the Selangor Football Association (FAS) was answered when Datuk Subahan Kamal was elected as the president for 2017-2021.
This was decided in a FAS extraordinary general meeting here Thursday, after Subahan won the post uncontested after receiving the support of 95 affiliated members of FAS.
Meanwhile, MRT Corp chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar won the post of FAS deputy president, also uncontested.
Subahan told a media conference after the meeting that the new FAS leadership would ensure that Selangor would remain competitive in the Super League this season.
"Selangor is now fourth in the league table, despite fileding a line-up of young players. The focus of the new leadership is to ensure that the finance and management of the FAS are on the right track.
"God willing, we will return as a national football power next year," he added.
The FAS election, which should have been done in 2018, was brought forward after Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali quit as FAS president in December citing unhappiness with the attitude of the exco who were too dependent on subsidy.
It was a follow-up to the state government's decision not to provide funds for FAS to prepare the Red Giants squad for the 2017 Malaysia League.
The continuous crisis between FAS and the state government got the attention of fans and the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah.
Tengku Amir, who is also FAS's royal patron, also demanded a revamp of the association's leadership.
He also came up with seven innovative measures to restore Selangor's glory in football.
Asked about the measures, Subahan said the FAS took into account all views for the good of the association and wanted fans to be patient because a big change would take a long time to implement. -- Bernama
