ABDUL KARIM: An announcement will be made soon regarding ticket refunds.
The Sultan of Selangor's Cup match slated to be held tonight at the Shah Alam Stadium has been cancelled after the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Shah Alam as at 5pm reached 135, which is at the unhealthy level.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and 300 and above, hazardous.
Organising Committee chairman Tan Sri Abdul Karim Munisar said the cancellation of the annual football match between a Selangor Selection and Singapore Selection was made following orders from the tournament's patron, Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who was very concerned about the haze situation which could affect the spectators and also both teams.
"An announcement will be made soon regarding ticket refunds," he said in the statement issued, today.
Apart from the match between the Selangor and Singapore selections, the annual tournament which was held since 2001 also features a match between veteran players from both sides.
For the record, Selangor Selection has won the cup seven times (2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014) while the Singapore Selection five times (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011).
In 2004, both teams were declared joint champions at the Singapore National Stadium in Kallang, after a 2-2 draw.
