Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah today said he will accept the decision made by Youth and Sports Minister to suspend Football Association Malaysia (FAM) following the embarrassing 10-0 Harimau Malaya defeat by United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a showdown in Dubai, recently.
He said, it is up to Khairy Jamaluddin to do what is necessary in his capacity as a minister.
“No one can stop him from using his power (to suspend FAM). He has the power just do what is necessary,” said Tengku Abdullah, after the launch of Cardiothoracic Services launch held at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here, today.
Tengku Abdullah also said it was uncouth to entirely blame him for the defeat.
“That is the culture here. If the reputation deteriorates, fingers will be pointed at the President – which is not how it should be as other countries – no such culture.
“I have said from the beginning that Dollah Salleh was never my choice but it was a responsible that I had to shoulder as FAM president,” said Tengku Abdullah.
Tengku Abdullah today expressed his intention to withdraw himself from FAM in stages.
On Saturday, Khairy warned the national football association to buck up or face suspension as a drastic measure to improve the quality of football in the country.
