Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said he is absolutely clueless about the sponsorship application by national track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang for a road bike to prepare for the Olympic Games.
While expressing regret, Ahmad Razif said he had instructed the state Sports Council to carry out an investigation on the matter and would contact the rider personally for clarification.
He even offered his apology if what Azizulhasni wrote on his Facebook account on the matter earlier today after winning a bronze medal in the Olympic Games, was indeed true.
"I have not yet received verification on this story...thus I cannot comment further without verification and we will make things right," he told reporters after a ceremony with pilgrims of Kuala Nerus state constituency, here, today.
Asked on whether he had received any application from Azizulhasni, Ahmad Razif said until today, to his knowledge, there was none.
"I am not sure...wallahuallam...I do not know who is the manager for Azizulhasni. If there was a mistakes from us, I on behalf of the state government would like to apologise. It is well informed that the state government is really committed in promoting sports," he said.
Ahmad Razif stressed that the state government had always provided various incentives, including land and allocations while cycling is among the most important sports assisted by the state government.
However, despite numerous perceptions, Ahmad Razif said the state government had prepared a welcoming ceremony for him and would organise a roadshow to share his victory and experience.
He added that Azizulhasni would also be given incentives but for now it was a 'secret' and would only be disclosed later.
