The wife of the Prime Minister, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor called on Malaysians to pray and give support to the country's badminton team to win and bring back the prestigious Thomas Cup.
"It has been a long time we held the Thomas Cup and hopefully we will all pray for our team to win tomorrow.
"I hold high hopes for our victory and hope it will be a reality," Rosmah, who is the patron of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), told Malaysian journalists here today.
Rosmah is accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who is on a three-day official visit to Kazakhstan since Thursday.
Malaysia will be meeting Japan in the Thomas Cup final in New Dehli tomorrow.
Rosmah and Najib were very proud and happy that the national badminton team were able to enter the Thomas Cup final and they also sent the players words of encouragement for them to give their best in the final challenge on Sunday.
Rosmah said even though she was abroad, she was kept informed of the progress of the Malaysian Thomas Cup squad as several BAM officials updated her with the latest information.
"Last night Datuk Lee Chong Wei also called me to say they have entered the final and will be facing Japan, so I gave them some advice through Chong Wei and told them to rest today.
"I said do not relax, the game is not over yet. I advised them to keep calm in the final," she said.
Rosmah said she was also informed that Malaysia had a fair chance to win in the final tomorrow but the Japanese team had also shown much improvement recently.
"As BAM patron, I wish the national squad well in the final tomorrow as I am not the only one holding such a hope but it is the wish of all Malaysians for us to bring back the Thomas Cup," she said.
"Should we fail to win, do not be too disappointed. This is part and parcel of the quest for glory," she added.
