National squash ace Low Wee Wern advanced to the second qualifying round of the 2016 US Open after edging Canadian Samantha J. Cornett in straight sets in Philadelphia.
Wee Wern defeated Cornett 11-5, 11-6, 11-5 to meet Salma Hany Ibrahim of Egypt on Friday local time (M'sia is 12 hours ahead of Philadelphia).
In the men's qualifying round Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan will meet Raphael Kandra of Germany after struggling to beat another German Charles Sharpes 8-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 earlier.
Ivan Yuen, cruised to the next qualifying round after beating Zahed Mohamed of Egypt 5-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7 to face Henrik Mustonen of Finland.
Meanwhile, squash queen Datuk Nicol David and Delia Arnold will start their campaign in the main draw against Line Hansen of Denmark and Camille Serme of France, respectively, on Saturday. - Bernama
