Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron yesterday proposed that Tengku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim take over as president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
The FAM president's post would be vacant next year, as its incumbent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had decided to resign from the post.
Idris, who is also Melaka United Soccer Association (MUSA) president said Tunku Ismail's good work is seen from three Super League titles won by Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) Football Club.
"Because of him, Johor is at the forefront of managing and providing infrastructure for football development," he told reporters after chairing the State Executive Council meeting at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, here Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Idris said MUSA will give free tickets to football fans to watch Melaka United's final match against Sime Darby on Oct 22 at Hang Jebat Stadium.
"I expect more than 30,000 fans to see Melaka United being crowned as Premier League champions."
Melaka have won the Premier League title after collecting 49 points, four more than second placed PKNS FC. -- BERNAMA
