After nearly a month since they were split, Rio 2016 Olympic silver-medallist doubles pair Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong are beginning to show positive changes with their new partners ahead of the French Open Super Series Badminton Championship at the end of the month.
National men's doubles coach Cheah Soon Kit, however, refused to put any target for V Shem, who is currently paired with Teo Ee Yi, and Wee Kiong who is with Ong Yew Sin, although he would love to see a surprise at the tournament which takes place from Oct 24-29.
"As of today, both of them have shown positive changes, namely the determination to improve individual weaknesses, and to improve performance with their respective new partners. For me, it is a very good sign, but a further assessment will be done," he told reporters during the national squad training session at the Badminton Academy Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Soon Kit said his new coaching assistant Vountus Indra Mawan, appointed in place of Jeremy Gan who resigned on Sept 30, will begin his duties by next week.
"He (Vountus) was supposed to start his job today, but was sent for a course to Langkawi, and he will return this Friday," he added.
