National shuttler Chong Wei Feng was the only Malaysian left standing in the main draw of the men's singles in the 2015 Australian Open in Sydney, Australia.
Wei Feng, who had to give up his rightfully earned spot in the World Championships to Datuk Lee Chong Wei, advanced to the main draw after defeating two opponents in the qualifying round.
Wei Feng, 27, disposed off Riichi Takeshita of Japan 21-19, 21-7 in the opening round and clinched a 21-9, 21-11 victory against Australian Michael Fariman in the second match.
Ranked 32nd in the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) world ranking, Wei Feng is scheduled to battle 16th ranked South Korean Lee Yun Il in the main draw tomorrow.
Zulfadli Zulkifli and Al Wei Jian failed to make it past the first round when they were shown the exit in the men's singles competition while Mohd Arif Abdul Latiff followed their foot path albeit in the second round.
Also spearheading Malaysia's hopes are women's singles players Tee Jing Yi and Lydia Cheah who marched into the main draw after defeating their opponents respectively.
Jing Yi defeated Australian Melinda Sun 21-11, 21-15 while Lydia Cheah took only 24 minutes to wrap up the match against Jamie Subandhi of the United States, 21-15, 21-11.
