KUALA LUMPUR: The national diving squad emerged empty-handed from the 2022 FINA Diving World Cup in Berlin, Germany, as they finished last in the mixed 3 metre (m) and 10m team event on Sunday.
The last day of the tournament, held in Schwimm-und Sprunghalle im Europa-Sportpark (SSE), saw the Malaysian trio led by diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong, together with men's divers Chew Yiwei and young athlete Bertrand Rhodict Lises, accumulating 265.00 points to finish fifth.
The American squad comprising Kristen Hayden, Zacharay Cooper, Tyler Downs and Katrina Young scored 375.80 points to secure gold while the home team of Saskia Ottinghaus, Pauline Alexandra Pfeif, Lou Noel Guy Massenberg and Timo Barthel recorded 370.85 points to claim silver.
Britanny O'Brien, Lachlan Cronin, Nikita Hains and Jaxon Bowshire of Australia had to settle for bronze after earning 356.65 points.
Meanwhile, in the men's 10m platform final earlier, Bertrand finished ninth out of 11 divers after collecting 275.85 points.
China had a 1-2 finish as Jian Yang scored a whopping of 537.70 points for gold while Hao Yang took silver with 472.20 points. Brandon Loschiavo of the United States amassed 429.95 points to win bronze.
China dominated the four-day competition by taking home eight golds and four silvers.
