Yushin “Thunder” Okami will be a man on a mission at ONE: CENTURY PART I this Sunday, 13 October.
The judoka meets Malaysia’s top welterweight talent Agilan “Alligator” Thani in a three-round welterweight contest.
Okami joined the ONE Championship roster in February 2019, and despite years of success in several promotions throughout the world, he has yet to sketch his first win in ONE Championship.
His debut in May against Kiamrian Abbasov ended in four minutes while his last appearance at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES in August against James Nakashima ended by unanimous decision.
It has been a tough period for the experienced Japanese warrior, but he assures there will not be any mistakes this time around.
“In my last two bouts in ONE, I thought I was in the best condition of my career, but unfortunately, I wasn’t,” the 38-year-old said ahead of his showdown in Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan.
“In this third bout, I want to show the world the real Yushin Okami.”
Those two losses barely reflect Okami’s ability to keep up with the various opponents he has met in his 17-year career, which consists of 35 wins.
Sometimes, one mistake is all it takes to lose – so “Thunder” is not too bothered about what unfolded in the past five months, although it does disturb him at times.
“I know I made my fans worried in my first and second matches at ONE. But it only made me more determined to win at ONE: CENTURY,” the EXFight athlete said.
The Malaysian warrior will issue a stern test to Okami in Tokyo, Japan, but the latter’s two outings against high-level grapplers should give him enough knowledge to prepare against a wrestler like Thani.
There is no formula to victory when he arrives in the Circle on Sunday, and he is ready to go guns blazing with the “Alligator” in front of his hometown crowd.
“I don’t care about technique, and I’m just going for a toe-to-toe battle with Thani.”
“I will crash with Thani and bring everything I have to Tokyo. I believe that will give me a win.”
The Home Of Martial Arts will break new ground as it brings multiple World Title bouts, a trio of World Grand Prix Championship Finals, and several World Champion versus World Champion matches to the famous Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on 13 October.
