Injured Malaysian Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin may be required to rest for between nine to 12 weeks, to ensure a speedy recovery, says National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz.
Dr Ramlan said the fracture suffered by Zulfahmi would normally take about nine to 12 weeks to recover.
"It involves the nerves and soft tissues. Since he has undergone surgery, it may help in the speedy recovery process," he told reporters after assessing Zulfahmi's injury at the NSI, Bukit Jalil, Monday.
The 21-year-old Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, fractured his right wrist after a crash in the Aragon Grand Prix last weekend and had undergone surgery to insert a titanium plate to secure the fracture.
Zulfahmi who had undergone surgery at the Universitario Quiron Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona, Spain had also fractured his left hand but the injury did not require any surgery, according to reports.
Upon his return from Spain, Zulfahmi continued his treatment at the NSI under Dr Kamarul Hashimy Hussien.
The injury would certainly prevent him from participating in the Malaysian MotoGP that will be held at the Sepang International Circuit from Oct 11-13.
