Twelve people were killed in clashes on Friday in Egypt's second city Alexandria as supporters and opponents of deposed president Mohamed Morsi fought pitched street battles, the official MENA news agency reported.
The deaths in Alexandria raised the day's toll in violence across the country to at least 26 people as Islamists turned out to protest over Morsi's overthrow on Wednesday in a widely popular military coup.
