RIYADH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for Arab and Islamic nations to build a consensus to suspend or expel Israel from the United Nations, emphasising the need to hold Israel accountable for its repeated violations of international law.
Anwar warned that Israel’s actions have already spread beyond Palestine, impacting neighboring countries like Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. He urged the international community to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.
“Its trail of atrocities has already spread into Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Iran. If the world turns away now, this violence will not remain contained; it will ignite a fire that threatens to engulf the entire region, and the rest of the world,” he said.
The Prime Minister made these remarks at the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, attended by key leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Anwar also called on global and Islamic leaders to focus efforts on rebuilding Gaza, which has been devastated by Israeli airstrikes.
“At the end of the day, the most important aspects of our concern are the victims. It is therefore imperative that we redouble current efforts to help rebuild Gaza from the ruins of destruction. Of crucial importance is implementing the plans without any undue delay,” he added.
The summit, organized by Saudi Arabia, aimed to find solutions to the escalating violence in Gaza and Lebanon, with a focus on halting Israeli attacks and providing humanitarian aid.
