A key event was a joint panel session hosted by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Azercell Telecom, COP29’s Telecommunications Partner, on November 17.

Moderated by Shirin Aliyeva, Chief Legal and Data Strategy Officer at Azercell Telecom, the panel discussion, “Women Leading the Charge: Climate Champions for a Sustainable Future”, brought together leading female experts and climate leaders driving transformative change in combating climate change. P

Panelists included Dr Barbara Botos, Hungary’s Ambassador at Large for Climate at the Ministry of Energy; Ambassador Patricia Espinosa, Climate Advocate CEO & Founding Partner @onepoint5_io and former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC (2016-2022); and Nurzat Abdirasulova, Founder and CEO of Unison Group.

The panel discussion focused on the role of gender equality in combating climate change, exploring how to expand women’s contributions to climate resilience and environmental protection, and proposing solutions to gender-based challenges in this area.

Participants emphasized the importance of amplifying women’s voices and initiatives for more effective global climate action, highlighting the need to promote women’s participation at all levels of climate action, particularly in decision-making processes.
