Singapore has preliminarily confirmed an additional 94 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the republic to 56,666.
“Based on our investigations so far, there are four cases in the community, all of whom are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents,” the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its brief data released here today.
The ministry said there were 10 imported cases who had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
Meanwhile, among the 80 cases residing in dormitories today, 58 are from Sungei Tengah Lodge who had been placed in quarantine earlier.
The ministry said the vast majority of them were tested during quarantine to determine their status or picked up through Rostered Routine Testing.
“Following the detection of cases at Sungei Tengah Lodge, we placed about 4,500 workers in quarantine and have tested about 3,000 of them so far.
“We expect the number of cases from the dormitory to continue to be high in the coming days as we complete testing,” it said.
Sungei Tengah Lodge was reported as a new cluster by MOH on Aug 22, 2020.
In full data released late yesterday, the republic had classified 876 of the reported cases as imported, 2,224 as community cases and 53,472 as dorm residents.
A total of 55,139 patients have fully recovered from the infection and been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
Meanwhile, 66 confirmed cases remain in hospital, but none in the intensive care unit.
A total of 1,340 patients who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.
To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 in the republic.
While no new cluster was identified yesterday, 41 clusters were ended.
