Thailand has reported two new COVID-19 cases and zero fatality today, bringing the total positive cases to 3,017 and 56 deaths.

Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said the two new cases involved a 19-year-old girl from Bangkok and a 51-year-old woman from Narathiwat. Both Thais had close contacts with confirmed patients.

"In the past two weeks, most of the cases have been from southern Thailand including 23 cases detected at an immigration detention centre in Songkhla province, 16 cases (active case tracing) and 12 cases (returnees from abroad )," he said at COVID-19 daily briefing here today.

Thaweesilp said 50 of 77 provinces in Thailand have not reported any COVID-19 cases in the last 28 days or more.

Of the 3,017 cases, he said Bangkok recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 1,703 followed by 726 in the south, central (383), northeast (111) and 94 (north).

Meanwhile, Prime Minister, General Prayuth Chan o-cha said the government would not lift the Emergency Decree easily despite the low number of new COVID-19 cases in the kingdom.

"Whether to lift or continue the Emergency Decree, would depend on the feedback and information from the Public Health Ministry," he said after chairing a Cabinet meeting here today.

Prayuth urged Thais to continue cooperating to prevent the second wave of COVID-19 outbreak in the kingdom.

Thailand first declared a state of emergency from March 26 to April 30 and extended it to May 31 to combat COVID-19.
