Widespread outrage has erupted on the internet once again over an animal cruelty video- this time in France.
A Frenchman, Farid Ghilas, 24 from Marseille, the south of France, was immediately arrested after the video of him throwing a white-and-ginger kitten named Oscar high into a block of flats.
“We were walking in the street. I saw the cat, he came towards me and I did it without thinking. I don’t know whose idea it was to film it,” Mr Ghilas told the court.
The five-month-old Oscar, survived the ordeal but was left with a broken leg and is currently receiving treatment.
Ghilas, who has been subjected to racists insults and death threats since the video was published, was charged with animal cruelty and faces up to two years in jail and a 30, 000 euro fine.
“He acted with a singular perversity and sadism that has shocked the entire planet,” said Emmanuel Merlin, the prosecutor.
