EARLIER this year, the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) announced their Road to Asian Games 2022 program which is a series of qualifiers and tournaments that culminate in the Asian Games final, which will be held in Hangzhou next year. At that time of writing, it wasn’t confirmed which titles we’ll be seeing but as of this evening, the list of games that will be played have been confirmed:
These titles were selected following the selection criteria that adhered to the requirements, including Olympic Values, set by AESF and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It wasn’t explicitly mentioned what the criteria was but they mentioned that popularity, license, and title contents were factors in the decision. Looking at the list, it doesn’t seem like anything major was left out (except Mobile Legends: Bang Bang which isn’t available in China). Regardless, it should be interesting to see how the various Asian countries stack up against each other in the upcoming regional tournament.
To promote technology-based esports in the future, AESF Robot Masters and AESF VR Sports will also be demonstrated at the tournament to highlight the importance and opportunities presented by STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education and Virtual Reality.
No details on the qualifying events have been released just yet, but seeing how it’s a year away, there should be plenty of time for players and teams to prepare themselves. The 19th Asian Games will be held on 10-22 September 2022, so stay tuned for more news and coverage from eGG Network.
