In celebrating the birth of their daughter, Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife have pledged to dedicate more than USD45 billion (around RM190 billion) to make the world a better place for all.

Zuckerberg is one proud man when his wife, Priscilla Chan, gave birth to baby Max or Maxima Chan Zuckerberg, last week. However, the Zuckerbergs only broke the news yesterday, via their Facebook, of course.

On their respective Facebook pages, the couple also posted a letter to their newborn, stating their pledge to several causes including fighting diseases, improving education and building strong communities.

"We will give 99% of our Facebook shares – currently about $45 billion – during our lives to advance this mission. We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others," they wrote.

The Zuckerbergs also pledged to provide sustainable initiatives, to join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation by forming the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The idea of investing in companies to tackle social issues has gained more prevalence among the younger generation of philanthropists, namely in the world of technology. And being one of the world's wealthiest men, Zuckerberg is no stranger in the charity scene, donating millions of his wealth to public schools and hospitals in the United States.

Zuckerberg and Chan have also expressed their aspirations to "advancing human potential and promoting equality."

In the letter, they wrote, "We must make long term investments over 25, 50 or even 100 years. The greatest challenges require very long time horizons and cannot be solved by short term thinking."
