MATRADE: RM1.01 Billion Worth of Trade Deals Expected at MIHAS #15

The world’s largest halal event is taking place yet again in Kuala Lumpur on the 4th to 7th April. MIHAS is expected to see over 22,000 trade visitors flocking to this year’s event.

Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) is organising the expo and will be hosting an event that will be expected to witness negotiated trade value of over RM 1.01 billion. MATRADE Director of the Halal Food & Beverage (F&B) and Agro-Based Sector, Mohammad Aminuddin Sham Tajudin is keenly observing the rising growth of this nascent sector.

“If we look at Malaysia and the Halal sector, the global Halal sector is growing tremendously. Muslims constitute 22% of the global population, and with over 2 billion Muslims consuming halal products and services, this tells you how big the market is” explained Aminuddin. “Today we have 1,400 Malaysian Halal exporters but this number is set to grow even more in the near future,” he adds.

“If you look at the attractiveness of the Halal business, looking at the Muslim majority countries, of course the business of Halal will be big news” Aminuddin noted. “But because of the proposition of the Halal sector, the business will also grow in non-Muslim majority countries,” he notes.

Traction of Halal exports is also set to grow. “MATRADE is also tracking Halal export growth. Number of exporters and the volume together with the value is growing year on year,” Aminuddin says.

“MATRADE as a trade promoter of the nation, we are mandated to push for greater growth in this sector. We participated in events in Dubai and in Germany where we brought Malaysian companies to participate in these events,” he says.
