The spotlight is back on the famous royal couple Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in a tell-all, exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey. We take a closer look at the choice of clothes worn during the interview and if there's a deeper meaning to the outfit selection.
WHAT DID MEGHAN WEAR?
• Meghan wore a flowing silk georgette black Armani midi dress. The outfit is valued at USD $4,700
• The dress with a plunging neckline, a belted waistline, features an embroidered lotus flower embellishment on the right shoulder side.
• It's believed that Meghan chose the dress with a lotus flower as the flower is often associated with rebirth and spiritual enlightenment.
• Meghan had, in the past, used her clothes as an extension of her talking points.
WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND MEGHAN’S DRESS?
• The lotus flower holds symbolic significance.
• According to a report by Town & Country in August 2020, the lotus flower "submerges every night into river water" only to reemerge each day in immaculate condition form.
• The report stated, the lotus flower’s daily resurrection is considered proof of its determination and will to live.
• Symbolically, the lotus also represents spiritual enlightenment, growth and rebirth and is a revered symbol in Hinduism and Hindu iconography.
• Town & Country writes: "In many cultures, this process associates the flower with rebirth and spiritual enlightenment."
• The outlet wrote that the flower is connected with "unwavering faith" that is "most emblematic of the faith within ourselves."
• It also highlighted how the lotus is an ideal gift for anyone recovering from grievance, injury or traumatic experience, befitting Meghan’s experience of online trolling which she found “almost unsurvivable.”
THE BRACELET
• Another symbolic piece of jewellery that Meghan wore for this exclusive interview includes a Cartier diamond bracelet worth USD $24,471. It belonged to belonged to Princess Diana.
• Prince Harry took two stones from bracelet to create create Meghan’s three-stone engagement ring.
• The French luxury bracelet was worn in public by Diana several times prior to her death.
• It is believed that the Duchess of Sussex wore brace the bracelet during the interview, so it would be like Diana was with them.
WHAT DID PRINCE HARRY WEAR?
• Prince Harry chose to go with a light gray suit, worn with an open white shirt .
• The J. Crew's Ludlow slim-fit suit jacket with matching suit pant retails at USD $727.
• Harry wore the outfit previously when he and Meghan introduced the arrival their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to the world.
• Harry has also worn the suit on other occasions as well, including a 2019 visit to Morocco.
