Here's the deal: no matter how advanced technology has become, at times it is better to take charge and know for sure where you are heading.

That's the likely lesson learnt by a woman in Canada, after her car plunged into a lake in Ontario, following her blunt reliance of GPS navigation to get to her destination.

The incident occurred on a foggy, rainy night.

The Toronto Sun reported, the woman, whose name was not identified, could not see clearly and only had her GPS to guide the way.

She admitted that she did not realise what had happened, or how and when her car had become 'airborne' before plunging into the lake.

Fortunately, the car remained afloat for a few minutes, giving her sufficient time to lower her window and get out safely.

Her Toyota Yaris however, did not share the same fate as it slowly submerged into the water.

The woman did not suffer any injuries.
