Tens of thousands of public employees and school teachers started a two-day general strike on Tuesday, leading to the shut down of all government offices and schools.
University employees and staff of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the West Bank have also declared a general strike on Tuesday.
The Palestinian government, which met on Tuesday, called on the workers’ unions to call off the strike after the Palestinian Authority has paid the full September salary.
However, the unions said the strike will continue as planned.
The strike will run into the al-Adha holiday which starts officially on Thursday and will continue through next Tuesday.
