Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, goes to the polls Wednesday for the third direct presidential election in its history.
Here are some facts on the country.
- CAPITAL: Jakarta
- LANGUAGE: Bahasa Indonesia, more than 700 local languages
- POPULATION: 250 million people
- RELIGION: Nearly 90 percent Muslim, with significant Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Confucian and animist minorities
- GEOGRAPHY: Tropical archipelago spread over more than 17,000 islands
- PROVINCES: 34
- CURRENCY: rupiah (around 11,800 to the dollar)
- PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDERS: Joko Widodo (Jakarta governor), Prabowo Subianto (a general turned successful businessman)
