Prachachat President Wan Muhamand Noor Matha has expressed confidence in his party's ability to form a coalition government with Pheu Thai, stating that if they succeed in forming a government, candidates from his party can be part of the cabinet.
A dominant southern Thai party, Prachachat, has expressed its willingness to participate in the government formation with the main opposition party, Pheu Thai, if they are successful in securing a majority vote in the upcoming general election on May 14th.
Prachachat President Wan Muhamand Noor Matha has expressed confidence in his party's ability to form a coalition government with Pheu Thai, stating that if they succeed in forming a government, candidates from his party can be part of the cabinet.
The decision to collaborate between Prachachat and Pheu Thai is not a new one, as analysts have long expected such a move based on previous collaborations between Wan Muhamad Noor and Thaksin Shinawatra, during which the former prime minister appointed him as a cabinet minister in his administration.
However, Wan Muhamad Noor has reiterated that the decision to form cooperation with any party must be based on shared goals, including unseating the current government, strengthening democracy, and promoting the economy, especially in Southern Thailand.
Wan Muhamad Noor has also expressed his desire to win at least 20 seats in this election,, compared to only 7 seats in the previous election.
In addition to Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, Prachachat are also fielding candidates in the Songkhla, Satun, and Nakorn Si Tammarat provinces.
Analysts have previously stated that the opposition parties need at least 300 seats in parliament to unseat the current government.
Meanwhile, speaking on the peace negotiation between the Thai Government and various separatist groups, Wan Muhamad Noor said that his party will support the initiative.
He believes the negotiations can be resolved more quickly if they are in power.
“Ï believe that peace negotiations will be resolved more quickly if Prachachat is in power. Because we are locals, and the party's secretary-general (Tawee Sodsong) has been involved in negotiations."
